Art show this weekend November 12-13

Just wanted you know that this weekend I will be part of the Georgia Coastal Artist Show. It is at the Glynn Art Building in the village near the light house on St. Simons Island, Georgia.

I have been spending most of my art time sketching lately. So I will have a couple of those to show.
Also I have decided to show three of my small paintings on canvas. It isn't my medium but we must stretch.

Of course, I am a printmaker and I will have a selection of my newest monotypes.

Working in my studio

I worked in my studio yesterday. Take a look at the proceess at my artworkfor birds blog. It is just a start of some interesting monotypes. On my walk to gather the plants, I saw two Great Crested Flycatcher playing chase through the trees. Beautiful to see nature at play.

A couple of weeks ago I did some bird surveys of a small pocket marsh. When I was walking out I was captivated by the dry plants. This is the area where I found the plants.The last day I gather some and Sunday I finally got out to my studio. It was a productive time. Now these are just the start of my monotypes but I thought I would share with you. I am using a water based etching ink from Daniel Smith. The paper has to me soaked or it will crease as it goes through the press. The challenge is to get a image of the dry plants that I envisioned in the field. It took some experimenting but the results was worth it.

These are just three of the images. I still have more work but I just had to share.

The area has beautiful Sedge Wrens that spend the winter in this area. On the surveys one or two would just pop up. What a thrill to see these little birds.

November Art show at Glynn Art Associations

I belong to Georgia Coastal Artists. This is the juried art guild of the Glynn Art Association on St. Simons Island. Every November we have an art show in the Gallery on Mallery. The one requirement is that it is new art.

I walk everywhere. When I am on one of my walks I look at plants, birds, & bugs. For the last few months I have been walking past a wonderful tangle of grape vines, morning glories, and grasses. Art is a creative process for me. It means I mull and plan and study before I ever get into the studio and my amazing press.

This is what I've been doing to prepare for my new art pieces. I am a printmaker so went by this vine tangle and cut samples of the vines and grasses.

In my studio I prepare a plexiglass plate by applying inks then I lay some of the vines and grasses on this surface. The 100% rag paper is soaked and ready. It is laid over this the plexiglass. Then form blankets are in place to help cushion the pressure as the plexiglass and paper are pulled under the two roller of the press. An image is created. Well that it is the start of the long process...... Anyway the time in the studio was successful. I now have two new pieces for the art show.
